Mary Powell

Mary Christine Powell, 89, formerly of Wheatland, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Westminster Health and Rehab in Terre Haute.She was born on November 25, 1924 in Knox County to John and Anna (Borgmeier) Hagemeier.She was a graduate of the former Edwardsport, Indiana High School in 1942 and of the Indiana Business College in 1943. For a total of three years she was employed as a service representative for the Indiana Bell Telephone in Vincennes. She then became a homemaker. She served for many years as church organist for the Wheatland United Methodist Church and the First Church of Christ Scientist in Vincennes. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vincennes and the Homebuilder's Sunday School class, the United Methodist Women, the Speedsters Club, and she was a past member of the Steen Township Neighbors Home Economics Club and the Knox County Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons.Surviving are her children, Alan Powell of Columbus, Indiana, Daniel (Linda) Powell of Carmel, Gary (Cindy) Powell of Vincennes, Shirley (Larry) Martin of Terre Haute, and Lou Ann (Steve) Shoaff of Evansville and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phillip G. Powell, whom she married on September 2, 1945 in Freelandville and passed on June 14, 2014; and two brothers,Edgar and Arnold Hagemeier.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 18, 2014 at Gardner Brockman Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in the May Chapel Cemetery in Lawrence County, Illinois. Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until the service time Saturday.
