Mary Roberts

Mary Jane Clements Roberts, 87, of Owensboro, passed away August 29, 2011 at the Carmel Home. She was born September 21, 1923 in Daviess County, Kentucky to the late Augustine Clements and Pearl Stallings Clements, She and her husband Johnny owned and operated Johnny Roberts Furniture Mart for 37 years. She is a Charter member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She was a graduate of St. Francis Academy, volunteered at the Opportunity Center and she was very active in the Owensboro Lions Club with her husband Johnny. She was an avid UK fan, book reader and loved to cook and can. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John E. Roberts 2000 after 57 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Nancy Roberts Phillip Tatum, of Lebanan, KY , Judith Roberts Wurth of Knoxville, TN, John Phillip 'Phil' Roberts, Sr. of Owensboro, Stephen Anthony 'Steve' Bonnie Roberts of Owensboro, Jane Lea Roberts of Maceo and Jill Roberts Denny Campbell of Owensboro, 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 2 Great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a friend and companion, Jack Clark of Owensboro, honorary daughter, Connie Cook of Owensboro, a brother, Harold 'H.A.' Marilyn Clements of Cincinnati, Ohio and a sister, Marjorie Early of Owensboro, KY. Services will be at 12:00 pm Wednesday, August 31, 2001 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Brad Whistle officiating with Father John Meredith concelebrating. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and from 10:00 am to 11:30 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Prayers will be 7:00 pm Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donation to the Carmel Home Building Fund, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303.
