Mary E. Spurgeon, 78, of Vincennes, passed away at 1:25 pm Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital.She was born July 17, 1940 in Vincennes, to William and Frances (Zeabart) Luking.Mary was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and she attended St. John Elementary School and graduated from St. Rose Academy in 1958. Mary worked hard all her life as she instilled that to her children to work hard and make a difference in the world. She had worked at Kahre's Jewelry, Schmidt's Key Market, Niehaus Lumber, and finally owned and operated her own business, Little Angels Daycare with her twin sister, Margaret until they retired in 2006.Surviving are her husband, Gordon A. Spurgeon, whom she married November 17, 1962; her children, Bradley Spurgeon of Vincennes, and Christopher Spurgeon and his wife Marcie, of Vincennes; her brothers and sisters, Bill Luking and his wife Freida, of Vincennes, her twin sister, Margaret (Luking) Hislip of Vincennes, Jim Luking and his wife Nancy, of Vincennes, John Luking and his wife Sue of Vincennes; a sister in law Thelma (Spurgeon) Evans of North Carolina; her grandchildren, Alex Spurgeon and his wife Emily, Blake Spurgeon, Luke Spurgeon, and Emma Spurgeon, her great grandchildren, Bryar Brown, Trace Spurgeon, and Milo Spurgeon, an ex daughter in law, Beth Thacker, and a large extended family..A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 30, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. David Fleck officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the Mass on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Francis Xavier Church or the Christian Education Foundation.
