Mary Stein

Mary H. Stein, 81, of Vincennes, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday October 21, 2014 at Gentle Care Nursing Home with her family and friends with her.She was born August 29, 1933 in Knox County to Jess and Ruth Spurgeon.Mary retired from Johnson Controls and had worked part time at Harold's and as a greeter at McDonald's. She enjoyed needlepoint, crafts, being outdoors, hunting mushrooms, and being with her grandchildren. Mary loved her lifelong friends as she continued doing activities and will always be remembered with a smile on her face.Surviving are her children, Mike (Elsbeth) Stein and Vickie (Jim) Burgess, both of Vincennes; a brother, Gordon (Mary) Spurgeon of Vincennes; a sister, Thelma Evans of Havelock, NC; her grandchildren, Josie Stein and Tommy (Shannon) Burgess; and her great grandchildren, Rowena Labo, Bailey Sparks, Spencer Labo, and William Burgess.Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John S. Stein; her sister, Norma Atkins; and her brothers, Danny and John Spurgeon.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 23, 2014 at Gardner Brockman Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Finnan officiating. Burial will follow in the Upper Indiana Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service time Thursday.
