Carolyn Barnes, 83, of Vincennes, IN, passed away August 2, 2019, at her home.Carolyn was born June 3, 1936, in Carrollton, KY. She was raised in Louisville, KY, and on September 9, 1955, she married Ronald L. Barnes. Carolyn was a faithful Christian wife and mother, and a member of the Bicknell Christian Church. She was also involved in the Fortnightly Club and the Daughters of the American Legion.Carolyn was a life long Christian who began her walk with Jesus at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville Ky. She supported and served alongside her minister husband wherever they were called: Antioch CC in Washington In, Franklin Heights CC in Vincennes In and lastly at Bicknell CC in Bicknell In. She began her working carrer in her late teens at Stewart's Department Store in Louisville Ky where a co-worker, Elsie Barnes, took notice of her wonderful qualities and introduced her son Ronald Lee to Carolyn. That meeting lead to a short courtship and a beautiful marriage that lasted 64 years. She worked breifly at GE, then many years at the Daviess and Knox County EEOC offices.She loved flower gardening, cooking & baking for her family, and embroidering, but her greatest and lasting interest was reading - especially History and Women in History.She was a true Southern Lady, wife and mother who believed that if you: made your bed, combed your hair, brushed your teeth, had on clean underwear and put your lipstick on you were ready to face the day's challenges. She issued a lot of southern sayings, but the ones that stand out the most are: "Behave yourself" and "Don't act ugly". In other words, exhibit Christ's love.Her greatest joys, after her beloved husband, were her children, grandchildren & greats. It was her mission to see that they were raised up with godly teachings, read the Bible, were regular worshippers and practiced The Good News.Surviving is her husband, Ronald L. Barnes; her daughters, Rhonda L. Huddelston and her husband, Randy, of Newburgh, IN, Barbara E. Myers and her husband, Mark, of Washington, IN, and Peggy Thompson of Washington, IN; her grandchildren, Danielle Kissel and her husband, Pat, Caroline Templin, Olivia Myers, Jeff LaBree, Sean Twaddell, Brandon Mireles, Eric Miller and his wife, Kristy, and Kasey Brooke Ellyson and her husband, Tim; four great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and Betty Goodpasture. She was preceded by her parents, Harold and Katherine (Bond) Stephenson, and a brother, James Howard Stephenson.Friends may visit with Carolyn's family from 12:00 - 2:00 on Wednesday, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. Her funeral service will begin at 2:00 on Wednesday. Interment will follow in Sugarland Memory Gardens in Washington, IN.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Open Arms Children's Ministry of Switz City or Camp Illiana of Washington, IN.
