Michael Cain

July 29, 1954 — May 27, 2020

Mike Cain bought the farm on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. He passed at his home in Fort Knox Place with his wife Deb Reynolds, the love of his life, at his side. He is also survived by a son, Sam; niece Amber Cain Neeley; beloved canine and honorary night nurse Chili; a large extended family, and innumerable friends. Mike's parents Marge and Joe, and his brothers Jimmy and Bobby preceded him.Mike squeezed more life into his almost 66 years than anyone we know. Just ask around Vincennes, or SW Indiana for that matter, because everyone knew him and loved him, with good reason. He was honest and kind, selfless and generous, fun-loving and screamingly funny. He was friendly and gregarious, making friends easily and keeping them forever. And sure, he could be a bit of a stinker; he liked to yank people's chains to get a rise out of them occasionally but always in fun, never with malice; and he took as well as he gave. He was perfectly imperfect.Mike is also remembered for his award-winning chile and MikeyBones Barbeque served at outings far and wide.Deb was the foundation and the sun in his life. She also totally had his number! That a girl from Canada found love on the Wabash is one of the life's great wonders for which all who know them are grateful.Classic rock was the soundtrack of Mike's life. From an early age he loved music and played guitar all his life. He enjoyed learning a new riff even if only Deb ever heard it. From the coin on the tonearm of the mono record player in the basement at 2 W. Sycamore, to the 8-track in the pink Caddie, to music vids and taping MTV FM simulcasts, and eventually the Strat and Marshall tube amp, Mike loved music and shared this gift with many friends! He also turned a Euchre trick or two, his evening card table always being a welcomed invitation.Mike studied journalism at VU and was a newspaper writer for a time. He and his J-Blazer friends got together again just last fall. Later he moved into metals fabrication for several companies and finally worked as a caregiver. We are all of us star-stuff, but Mike shined brightest of all. His huge heart and limitless effervescence will be missed while we mourn, then remembered always.A killer party celebrating Mike's Life will be held when it is safe to do so. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mike Cain.
