Millard Elder

Millard O. Elder, 96, passed away at 7:04 pm on August 30, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Millard was born on April 24, 1918 in Lawrence County, IL the son of Otto and Marie (Lagard) Elder. He married Ada Grace Smith on January 20, 1943 and she preceded him in death on December 30, 2009.Millard served his country in the Army Air force during World War II and was a self employed independent trucker and a farmer. He was a member of Pleasant View United Church of Christ in Palestine as well as the VFW.Survivors include his daughter, Rita Greene and her husband Robert of Vincennes, son, Marshall Elder and his wife Barbara of Duluth, MN, son, Edward Elder and his wife Suzanne of St. Louis, MO, daughter, Rebecca Ramsey and her husband Steven of Palestine, IL, son, Mark Elder and his wife Sheila of Robinson, IL, daughter in law Marcia Elder of Palestine, IL, sister, Fleeda Faith of Vincennes, fourteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and one great- great grandchild, Millard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ada Grace Elder, son, Roger Elder, sisters, Vera Jeffries, and Wilma Doris Hauskens and brother, Ralph Elder.Funeral services for Millard will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, with Pastor Paul Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with Millards family from 5-8 pm Wednesday at Goodwin funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
