Minnie Summers

August 16, 1915 — February 24, 2011

Minnie Victoria "Sis" (Hartzburg) Summers, went to heaven from her residence at 5:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, 2011. She was born August 16, 1915, in Knox County, IN, the daughter of William and Claudia (Dawson) Hartzburg. Minnie had worked as a bookkeeper at Brokhage Department Store, which later became Strashun Hasty, worked in the office of Fred Beach Insurance and Realty and McFarland Insurance Agency and retired from Midwest Telephone Company. She was a member of Oaktown Methodist Church where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent and later the Oaktown Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday School. She attended First Church of God in Vincennes and had great passion for God's word. She was a member of the ABWA Charter Chapter. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Ann Harrison (Ron) Dix, Janice (Dean) Perigo, Cathy (Kerry) Halbert, Carla Hartsburg, Charles Hartzburg, Brent Gates and Dee Walters; several great-nephews; sister, Ruby Harrison Strate of Vincennes; and brother, Carl Hartsburg of Wheatland, IN. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Porter Blann Summers, whom she married on November 8, 1936 and he was killed in France during World War II on November 8, 1944; and brother, Raymond Hartzburg. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 27, at 4:30 p.m. at First Church of God, 1408 E. St. Clair St. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the church from 2:30 p.m. until the service time. A graveside committal will be held Monday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Oaktown Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews: Ron Dix, Brent Gates, Zachary Gates, Charles Hartzburg, Rusty Hartzburg, Joey Hartzburg, Jeff Perigo, and David Perigo, and a friend, Joe Craig. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruby & Gib Strate Family Foundation, the First Church of God Church on the Street Program or your preferred Bible based church.
