Nadene Franz Nichols, age, 96, died on Friday, May 20, 2022 in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born in Milton Township, Michigan, on August 22, 1925, to Dean J. and Carrie V. (Hicks) Franz who preceded her in death. She was the widow of Robert James Nichols, M.D. and mother of surviving children Pamela K. Kallio (Craig) of Oak Ridge, TN, Rhonda N. Barr (John) of Iowa City, IA, Dena N. Yngve (David) of Galveston, TX, and R. James Nichols, M.D. (Anne) of Billings, MT. She was preceded in death by brothers Richard Dean Franz and Dale William Franz. Nadene grew up on a three-generational farm in southern Michigan. She graduated from Edwardsburg High School and from registered nurse training at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana, with specialty in surgical assistance from Indiana University. She married Bob on September 14, 1946 and took pleasure as a homemaker and hosting 41 years of family reunions. Nadene and Bob moved to Vincennes in 1956 and together enjoyed gardening, bridge, and golf with family and friends. They were active in the First Presbyterian Church, the Elks, and medical auxiliaries. Nadene of late was a member of the Upper Indiana Presbyterian Church. She will be remembered fondly for her volunteer hospice nursing, sewing skills, her fruit pies, and warm hospitality. Nadene is survived by grandchildren Julie Martin (Neal), John DeBoer, Gregory Barr, Thomas Barr, and Evan Barr; Maren Fuller (Clint), Leah Yngve, Charles Nichols, Rilus Nichols, Jospeh Nichols; Eric Kallio (Lena), Abby Hurst (Greg), and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be given to the Robert and Nadene Nichols Nursing Scholarship through the Vincennes University Foundation, the United Way, or the charity of your choice. Visitation will be Friday, June 17, 2022, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway Street, Vincennes, Indiana. The service will begin at 2:00 immediately after the visitation. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Nadene.
