Nancy Louise (Miller) Rout, 78, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. She was born in Vincennes, Indiana on January 27, 1945. Nancy has lived in Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Arizona, and was an El Paso, Texas resident since 1988.
She had a life well lived visiting almost 50 countries and all 50 states with many unique experiences and adventures. Nancy earned her nursing degree at Vincennes University and her MBA from Ball State University. She obtained three professional certificates – CCRN, ACHE, HQCP. Nancy was named Las Palmas Nurse of the Year, has served as the President of the Texas Organization of Nurse Executives, was the Sunbeam Girl contest winner, and won Marengo’s 1978 Mother of the Year. Nancy was a licensed nurse in Texas and Indiana at the time of her passing. She was always loved and respected by those she worked with. Nancy ended her career at Las Palmas as the Nursing Administrator.
She was a lifelong, active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints even serving a church mission with her husband in her retired years to Eugene, Oregon. Throughout her life, Nancy loved working on family history and learning about her ancestors. Nancy could easily tell you stories about these ancestors. All that knew her, recognized her selflessness and compassion. Nancy would do anything for anyone without drawing attention to herself. She lived a life of service and love.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Wayne Rout, and her parents Melvin & Louise Miller. Nancy is survived by her siblings Roger (Terry) Miller and Jeff Miller, many nieces and nephews, her children Necia Hasler (Greg), David Rout (Linda), and Tim Rout (Laura), and ten grandchildren Parker Hasler (Rebecca), Shaeleigh Wells (Justin), Grace Rout, Malesa Hasler, Owen Rout, Lauren Rout, Nathan Rout, Murphy Rout, Marylin Rout, and Finn Rout who she dearly loved.
Nancy was never happier than when she spent time with her family and especially with her grandchildren. She was a superior supervisor, spouse, friend, and player with grandchildren. Her absence is a loss to her family and to the many people who called her "friend".
Nancy will be buried next to her husband, Wayne, at Fairview Cemetery in Vincennes, Indiana on Friday, November 24th at 11am with a graveside ceremony. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to one of her great loves – family history: FamilySearch, FamilySearch Library—Gifts, 35 No. West Temple Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84150-1103 USA.
