With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of Dr. Thomas Neil Sweigart, better known as Neil, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, community leader, and devoted member of various organizations in Vincennes, Indiana. Born on May 7, 1947, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania Neil is the son of Floyd and Grace (Oberholtzer) Sweigart. Neil's journey on this Earth concluded on March 5, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Neil received his B.S. in education at Indiana University of Penn, he then obtained a M.S. in music at Indiana State University before receiving his D.C. at Logan Chiropractic College. He loved being a chiropractor for forty-one years, healing hands, always ready to give a treatment.
Neil dedicated his time and efforts to numerous causes, serving as a respected member of the Kiwanis Club and playing a pivotal role in the Vincennes Education Foundation as its First Chairman of the VEF Golf outing. His commitment to community extended to his involvement with the Indiana Military Museum, where he contributed diligently. Neil also found joy in music as a member of the Hoosier Harmonizers, showcasing his vocal talents in the Barber Shop Quartet.
Remembered for his love for sports and the outdoors, Neil reveled in activities like golf, pickleball, and racquetball. His passion for a healthy lifestyle was evident through his plant-based diet and hosting a health-centric talk show, "Health News You Can Use," for three years. Every winter, Neil found solace in traveling to Raintree Village, Florida, where he enjoyed three months of relaxation annually.
A familiar sight at Gregg Park, Neil's love for horshoes was well-known as he took pleasure in pitching horseshoes regularly. His dedication to the Vincennes Horseshoe Club as its President highlighted his commitment to fostering camaraderie and sport in the community.
Survivors include his wife Margaret "Margy" Sweigart of Vincennes; his sons, Stephen Sweigart of Vincennes, Dr. Christopher Sweigart and his wife Dr. Alecia Sweigart of Pittsburgh, PA; his grandchildren, Clark, Theodore "Teddy" and Cecilia "Ce Ce" Sweigart; his siblings, Eileen Sweigart of Lancaster, PA, Martha Brunner of Lancaster, PA, Frieda Schmidt and her husband Marty of Downingtown, PA, Karen Sweigart of Sinking Spring, PA, Kurt Sweigart and his wife Jane of Edmond, OK and Kent Sweigart and his wife Jane of Ephrata, PA. Neil is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Grace Sweigart.
In honor of his memory, A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on March 23, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic, 2004 N. 2nd St., Vincennes, IN 47591 with Rev. Tony Ernst celebrating. Friends may visit with Neil's family from 9:30 am until the time of Mass at 11:30 am. A time to reflect on his life, legacy, and the impact he had on those around him.
May Neil rest in eternal peace, his spirit forever present in the lives of those he touched.
