Noretta Marie (Smith) Moske of Petersburg passed away Friday, August 5 in her home. A local girl, Noretta was born in Petersburg on August 4, 1935 to Marion and Marie (Wheatley) Smith. She was the youngest of eight children and graduated from Petersburg High school in 1953. In 1954 she attended and graduated from a cosmetology school in Evansville. Then in 1957 she married a minister, Charles R Moske of Springfield, Illinois. Later after 16 years of marriage a daughter VindaKay Edree was born. Noretta was the epitome of a lady and known for her kind and loving way. She never thought about herself, it was always about what she could do for others. She was a caregiver for over 40 years and despite many hardships, never spoke negatively about it, instead saying "it's just love". Noretta and her sister Norma were the genealogist of the family, always looking for the next hint. Noretta felt the family history and stories as well as stories about her hometown, Petersburg were important to keep and pass on. She loved telling stories to all who would listen. She was also an avid reader but not just any book. She took it upon herself in 1957 to start reading the Bible every year, she was happy to say she had read the Bible 63 times. Many of the the family remarked that if they had a question about the Bible they knew they could go to Noretta. Her legacy and the legacy of the Smith/Wheatley family will live on in us, the next generation, because of the good values she and her brothers and sisters gave us. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Marie (Wheatley) Smith. Her beloved husband of 30 years Charles R. Moske.
