Norma Jean Sanders, 86, of Vincennes, died November 1, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital.She was born on March 2, 1934 to Charles and Mary Ada (Deckard) Hitt in Vincennes, Indiana.Norma Jean married Charles Sanders on November 2, 1951. It was a quick wedding as Charles was in the service and drove 13 hours from Fort Rucker, Alabama to marry the love of his life. They honeymooned for one night before he had to return to Alabama and leave his new bride behind. They had 3 children, Melanie, Jonathan Ace, and David (her favorite).She was a homemaker most of her married life but decided to go work when the children were older. She worked in the bakery at Harold's Supermarket and retired from there in 1992. She loved to bake and decorate cakes.Norma Jean was an avid reader. She and her sister Dee enjoyed sharing books and discussing the content. They enjoyed playing Scrabble and drinking coffee.Norma loved cooking, baking and creating holiday traditions for her family.Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the center of her focus and attention.Her grandchildren have fond memories of spending time with "Grandma Jean" baking cookies, playing board game, and learning to cross stitch.Her greatest source of pride were her 4 great grandchildren, Reid, Rider, Dawsyn, and Katie and the knowledge of two more babies on the way.Norma Jean is survived by her children Melanie (Jim) Flory, Jonathan (Susan) Sanders, and David (Cathy) Sanders; her grandchildren Elizabeth (Eric) Blann, Nikki (Derek) Rogers, Erica (Aaron) Bushnell, Jonathan (Misty) Sanders, Josh (Lianna) Sanders, Jensen Ritchie, and Jourdyn (James) Brown; great grandchildren Reid Blann, Rider Ritchie, Dawsyn Brown and Katie Bushnell; sister Delores (Bob) Mayberry and Jack ( Sylvia) Hitt.She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents, Charles and Mary Ada Hitt; and her brother William Hitt.Public visitation will be 11:00am until 1:00 pm Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes followed by a private family funeral with Mike McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Helping His Hands or the Food Pantry.
