Olive Esther Lawyer

Olive Esther (Eaton) Lawyer, age 102, of Plainville, IN, passed away at Hillside Manor Nursing Facility in Washington, Indiana, on Monday, August 19th, 2024.


Olive was born on May 13, 1922, to Edgar Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Webber) Eaton, at the home of her maternal grandparents, Mason and Anna (Hart) Webber near Epsom, IN.


Olive attended Plainville High School and graduated from there with the class of 1940. Olive was married to her high school sweetheart, Bernard Ray Lawyer, on February 14, 1941, and they had nearly fifty years together. Olive and Ray were engaged in farming from the beginning of their marriage. They built a home on the family farm in 1952.


Olive was well known in her community and family for her quilting skills. She hand pieced and hand quilted numerous quilts that she gifted to her family and friends. Olive also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and many different and varied crafts. She had a green thumb, which was evident in her beautiful flower gardens at her country home, and when she moved to town years later.


Attending church services was a priority for Olive. She was a member of the Parkview Christian Church in Plainville and rarely missed a Sunday. Olive was a member of the Friendly Homemaker's Circle for 50 years and was a 75-year member of the Plainville Eastern Star.

In addition to working alongside her husband on the family farm, Olive was also employed at the G.C. Murphy store in Washington, IN, in the 1940's. and the Daviess County Court House in the Recorder's Office and the Clerk's Office, retiring in 1993.


Olive was preceded in death by; her parents, her husband Bernard Ray Lawyer, her brother(s) Norman and wife, Vonelle Eaton, Bill and wife, Margie Eaton, Darell and wife, Janet, Max Eaton, and Gene Eaton,


Surviving Olive are her sons and daughters-in-law: Ed (Diane) Lawyer, Plainfield, IN, Bern (Suzanne) Lawyer, Washington, IN, and Ben (Debbie) Lawyer Washington, IN. Grandchildren surviving are Jason (Erin) Lawyer, Clint (Bridget) Lawyer, Melissa (Robert) Murray, Elizabeth (Anthony) Mason, and Natalie (Lee) Clements. There are twelve great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, with another one on the way.


Also surviving are Olive's sister in laws, Leola Eaton, Plainville, IN, and Jodie Eaton, Washington, IN. In addition, Olive is survived by several nieces and nephews.


Thank you to niece Libby Robinson for the many hours of care and concern that she gave to her Aunt Olive, especially over the past year.


Funeral services will be held at the Parkview Christian Church in Plainville, IN on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.


Officiating will be Jason Shemanski, pastor of the Parkview Christian Church, assisted by Jon Bennington.

Contributions may be made to the Parkview Christian Church, Plainville, IN, or to the Plainville High School Alumni Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
