Opal Kays

Opal Kays, Jr. passed away Sept. 25, 2013, at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas, NV.He was called Jr. by his family and friends. Jr. served in the US Army from 1950 to 1977, and served in two wars. After retiring from the Army, he worked as the Food Service Director for different hospitals. He bravely fought personal battles with diabetes and Alzheimer's Disease. Jr. enjoyed watching summer turn to fall, and spending Christmas with his family.Born July 21, 1930, in Vincennes, he was the son of Opal, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Hatton) Kays. His parents preceded him.He celebrated life each day by spending time with his family; daughter, Kelley (Rob) Kays-Thompson; his grandchildren, Lily, Robert, Chloe, Luke, and Sun Kays - Thompson, all of Las Vegas, NV. Also surviving is his brother, William Kays, of Vincennes. He will remain proud of his daughter for eternity and will be sadly missed.The funeral service will be held on Saturday, at 2:00, at Goodwin Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 - 2:00 on Saturday. Burial will be in the Wheatland Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion - VFW Firing Squad.Online condolences may be sent to the family through goodwinfamilyfh.com.
