Paul G. Opell, 88, 2632 S. Harvest Acres, Vincennes, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at the New Willow Manor. Born April 16, 1923, in Vincennes, he was the son of Luther and Gladys (Hollingsworth) Opell.Paul owned and operated Opell Mobile Home Sales and was a member of Central Church of Christ. He was a life member of the American Legion and All Weather Firing Squad where he served as commander, past member of the Harmony Society and Vincennes Elks Golf and sang in the barbershop quartet. He also served as past commodore of the Vincennes Boat Club. He retired as a charter boat captain of his own boat in Panama City Beach, FL. Paul served his country in the United States Coast Guard.Survivors include his wife, Agnes (Gordon) Opell whom he married on April 16, 1944; sons, Terry Opell and his wife, Nancy, and Bruce Opell and his wife, Sheila, both of Vincennes; daughters, Paula Opell Walters and her husband, John, of Vincennes; sister, Betty Fredrick of Monroe City; brother, Harlan Opell of Fairfield, IL; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.Preceding Paul in death were his parents; and brothers, Nelson Opell and Forrest Opell.Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 1, at 10:00 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St. with Roger Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 31 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
