Paul R. Schuckman, 95, of Vincennes, passed away on Wednesday November 22, 2017.He was born on July 6, 1922 near Freelandville to Walter and Rose (Hamke) Schuckman.Paul grew up in Bethel Church and attended Westphalia grade school and high school and graduated from Edwardsport High School in 1941. Just as the war was ending with Germany in World War II, Paul was an army chauffeur for Colonial William T. Hamilton in Occupied Germany.If you owned and Oldsmobile, you knew Paul. He was the Service Manager for Westfall Motors in Vincennes for 35 years. Paul retired at the age of 90 from the YMCA Bettye McCormick Senior Center as a VanGo driver for 24 years. Over the years, in his free time, he refinished furniture for many people in the area. Paul was very handy at making and repairing almost anything. Numerous people in the area benefited from his talents.Paul and Helen had been members of the St. John's United Church of Christ for about six decades. He was involved in the Sunday School department for 60 years and Church Board for four years. His memberships included the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for more about 60 years and the Traveler's Protective Association (TPA) for about 30 years. Paul was very involved in Genealogy in the last several years being a member of the Northwestern Territory and the Vincennes Historical Antiquarian Society.Surviving are his daughter, Karen Redmond and her husband, Steven, of Allentown, PA; a son in law, David Condra, now married Karen, of New Albany, IN; a brother, Edward Schuckman of Florida; three grandchildren, Stacey Waring with her husband Jeff, Dusty Condra, and Kristina Lang with husband Alex; plus her five great grandchildren, Zachary, Nathan, Julia, Caroline, and Jacob.Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Helen Ann (Fisher) Schuckman, formerly of Lawrence County, whom he married in 1947. They had been married for 68 years before her passing; a daughter, Rita Condra, whom passed in 1998; and a sister, Ruth Johanningsmeier; and her husband Alfred; and a sister in law, Rosalie (Cole) Schuckman.Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the St. John's United Church of Christ, 606 N. 5th, Vincennes, Indiana, where funeral services will start at 1:00 pm with Rev. Lynn Oliver-Marino officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Freelandville at a later date.
