Paul J. 'P.J.' Walther, age 85, of Owensville, IN, passed away at 10:15 a.m. EST on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Todd-Dickey Nursing & Rehabilitation in Leavenworth, IN. P. J. was born on April 27, 1933 in Corydon, Indiana, Harrison County, to Edmund and Loretta (Baumgart) Walther. He married Vivian J. Carver on December 23, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lanesville, IN, Harrison County. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a Corporal, who served in the Korean War. He was employed with Public Service Indiana/Cinergy/Duke Energy for 32 years, beginning at the Gallagher Station plant in New Albany, IN and was the Administrative Services Supervisor for the Gibson Station Plant in Gibson County, IN. P. J. was a member of First General Baptist Church in Owensville, IN He served the United Way of Gibson County for many years and was president of the Gibson County chapter for some time. After retirement, he enjoyed repairing and selling lawnmowers and other small engines. If you were one of his customers, you may have heard him say one of his more frequent witty and charming selling lines, 'Make me an offer! You can't hurt my feelings!' He loved antique tools. His other interests were many, including daily crossword puzzles, reading, and geography. Always the information-seeker, not long ago he was memorizing the capitals of Asian countries and reciting the Greek alphabet. Surviving are his wife, Vivian, of Owensville, IN; his brother, Alvin Walther, Lanesville, IN; four children (some of whom may or may not have mastered the art of properly holding a flashlight) who are: Paul Mark (Roxanna) Walther, Owensville, IN; Neal (Debra) Walther, San Antonio, TX; Jennifer Walther Kieffer, Ferdinand, IN; Jason (Alicia) Walther, Owensville, IN; four grandchildren, Sarah Walther, Jacob Walther, Ryan Kieffer, and Amanda Hipshire; and five great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters, Lucille and Lois Clubb Wisman. Holder's Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Walther. Visitation will be held Thursday December 13, 2018 at Holders Funeral Home from 4p-8p and Friday from 9a-10a. Funeral will be Friday at 10a with Pastor Tammy Scheller officiating with interment at Owensville Cemetery with military honors. Flowers are welcome. Contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association or a dementia organization or charity of your choice.
