Ralph Johnson

Ralph "Bugs" Gerald Johnson, 93, of Decker, passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital on Monday, September 13, 2021 in Vincennes, IN. A devout family man & outgoing friend to those who knew him, Ralph was born on Sunday, June 17, 1928 to Ralph Commodore & Ruth M. (Devine) Johnson in Decker, Indiana. Ralph married Ruth Ann Peach on July 23, 1953 and provided for his family as the 5th generation caretaker of his Johnson Township family farm founded November 13, 1800. He also delivered mail as a rural letter carrier on Vincennes RR 5 for the USPS before retiring in 1993. As a young man, Ralph attended Decker School and a good contest of shooting marbles, billiards, playing cards, and competitive shooting. Ralph was also a "green-thumb" gardener, throughout his life and enjoyed fishing in the White River with nets he crafted himself. He was a member of Bunker Hill Baptist Church, the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, the Columbia 450 Masonic Lodge in Patoka, IN, and was a 32nd Degree in the Scottish Rite. Ralph is survived by his son Mike Johnson & his wife Barbara of Decker, and three daughters Kathy McCreary of Vincennes, Alice Smith& her husband Gene of Decker, and Annette Johnson of Cocoa, FL,: 9 grandchildren: Michael T. Johnson, Christye Driskill, Ashley Irvin, Allyson Hageman, Matthew Johnson, Kelsey Klingerman, Kiaya Cornwell, Hananiah Cornwell, Quintesa Cornwell; & 5 great-grandchildren Kiah Driskill, Oliver Hageman, Fynn Hageman, Zander Johnson, & soon-to-arrive Alice Rose Klingerman. Preceding him in death were his wife of 64 years, Ruth Ann, who passed away on July 20, 2017, his parents, 2 grandchildren: Melanie Robb & Andrew Robb, & daughter Kathy's lifetime partner James Spencer. Visitation for friends will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home 524 Broadway Street, Vincennes, Indiana. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at Johnson Cemetery in Decker, Indiana. Officiating will be Pastor Jay Howder, under the direction of Goodwin Sievers Funeral Home in Vincennes, Indiana.
