Raymond Earl Mott, 72, of 622 North 4th, Vincennes, passed away at 9:36pm Friday, August 5, 2011 in Good Samaritan Hospital.He was born on May 23, 1939 in Malesus , Tennessee to Orrin and Julia (Gross) Mott.Ray was a graduate of Southside High School and Union University in Jackson, Tennessee and received his Masters in banking and finance from Louisiana State University. He began his banking career in 1963 with Union Planters Bank in Memphis , Tennessee and had served as a Federal Bank Examiner and worked in banks in Jackson, Tennessee and Stillwater, Oklahoma. Ray retired from Union Planter's Bank which was formerly American National Bank and Regions, in 2001. An active member of First Baptist Church in Vincennes, which he was serving as treasurer and had previously served on the Trustee Board, he also served as state treasurer for the American Baptist Church Indiana/Kentucky region. Ray enjoyed being a ham radio operator belonging to the Old Post Radio Amateur Radio Society with his identification being N9QEI. He served in the Navy from 1961-1963 in the Cuban Blockade and the Mediterranean Sea.Ray was involved in many civic and city organizations. He was a member of the Rotary in Stillwater and Vincennes, where he served as President and District assistant governor, the Salvation Army Advisory Board in Stillwater and Vincennes, Past president of the Baptist Homes in Indiana, Knox County Development Board, Past President of the Knox County Public Library Board, and was serving as President of the Historic Review Board.Surviving is his wife, Janice (Fordyce) Mott, whom he married October 27, 1990, daughters; Connie (Richard) Jernigan of Nashville, TN and Cara Marie Mott of Bloomington, IN; a step-son, Curtis (Sarah) Page of Anchorage, AK; a step daughter, Deidre (Brian) Martin of Vincennes; four grandchildren; Kelly (Matthew) Koteles, Kenneth, Kevin, and Kortney Jernigan; step granddaughters, Lindsay and Page Martin; great grandson, Robert Koteles; and step great granddaughter, Addison Martin. Funeral services for Ray will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Clemens officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 pm at First Baptist. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2625 Wabash Ave. Vincennes IN 47591.
