Reta Schaefer

Reta J. Schaefer, 83, of Vincennes, IN, passed away December 22, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital.Reta and her husband, Burt, owned and operated Schaefer Schwinn. Oftentimes she would be at the front of the store working with the public, and Burt would be at the back of the store working on bikes.When they weren't at the shop, and later in retirement, Reta enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo, and painting with watercolors. She also enjoyed travelling, fishing, gardening, and mushroom hunting. The daily mushroom count could be found on the calendar.Surviving are her children, Cindy Kirkwood and her husband, Ron, of Chandler, IN, and Steve Schaefer of Albuquerque, NM; her grandchildren, Jessica Hall and her husband, Rob, Dana Smith and her husband, Brad, Jay Cockerham, Josh Cockerham and his wife, Sara, Elias Yeazus, Rachy Yeazus, Mosheh Yeazus, Kahra Yeazus, Rahel Yeazus, Brant Schaefer and his wife, Sarah, and Skyla Allen; and her great-grandchildren, Ally Smith, Nathaniel Cockerham, Katelyn Cockerham, Benjamin Cockerham, Corinne Smith, William Cockerham, Elisabeth Cockerham, Kallie Cockerham, Kyle Cockerham, Susanna Cockerham, and Nicholai Schaefer.Reta was born May 14, 1937, in Bicknell, IN, and raised by her grandparents, Charles and Lucinda Messel. Preceding her was her husband, Burton Schaefer, whom she married December 24, 1955, and who died February 19, 2007; and her granddaughter, Elise Yeazus.Friends may visit with Reta's family from 12:00 - 2:00 on Saturday, at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home.
