Richard Mcclure

January 31, 1944 — October 13, 2012

Richard L. McClure, Sr. 68 of Vincennes passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at his residence of natural causes. Richard was born on January 31, 1944, in Michigan; he was the son of Clem and Dolores (Risinger) McClure. Richard graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute in 1962. He graduated from Earlham College in 1966. He then went on to get his Masters Degree in education from Indiana State University. He served in the US Army. He graduated first in Officer Candidate School at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He also served as a Lieutenant in the ninth Engineer Battalion in Aschaffenburg, Germany from 1968-1969. Richard taught and coached football at Cathedral High School and West Central High School in Indianapolis, IN. He did the same at North Judson High School in North Judson, IN and at Washington High School in Washington, IN. Through the years he also coached track and wrestling. He was a loving father and grandfather and friend. He loved umpiring football, golfing, going to Florida in the winter and being with his friends and family. Coach McClure is survived by his ex-wife, to whom he was married for thirty years, Mary (Tunia) McClure. His two sons, Richard L. McClure, Jr. and his wife, Nikkole of Washington, IN and Andrew D. McClure and his wife Lori of Greenwood, IN; his foster son Tim Oesterle of Vincennes; his two sisters, Shirley Johnson and her husband Dale of Farmersburg, IN; and Sharon Swayze of Indianapolis, IN. He also has four wonderful grandchildren and a very special friend Linda Hayes. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Don McClure and one sister, Judy Gilbert. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main St., Vincennes, IN. A celebration of life service for Richard will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with 3 or 4 of his closest friends paying tribute to him. Burial will follow at a later date.
