Richard Spangle, Vincennes, formerly of rural Edwardsport, died on February 20, 2014 at Gentle Care Nursing Home.Richard was born in Westphalia, IN on January 16, 1929 to Ed and Hilda (Richter) Spangle. He attended grade school in Westphalia and graduated from Edwardsport High School in 1947. He played basketball in high school and often said the only reason he went to school was to play ball.Richard was a lifelong farmer, working the family farm near Edwardsport. He loved recounting the early farm ways and recalled plowing with a team of horses.He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and was confirmed there in 1943.He married the former Jane Thompson on November 3, 1957 and she survives. He is also survived by two sons, Steve Spangle of Washington, IN and Brian Spangle of Vincennes and a sister, Mariann (Spangle) Hulen of Bicknell and her husband, Farrell, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral services will be conducted from Goodwin Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2014 with the Rev. Bryan Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the hour of service time of 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Salem UCC Cemetery in Westphalia.
