Robert N. Bateman, 90 passed away at 10:15 am on January 31, 2014 at his residence in Washington, IN. Bob was born on September 21, 1923 in Daviess County, IN the son of William E. and Mary (Eubanks) Bateman. He married Tincie Durham on October 27, 1950 and she preceded him in death on August 19, 1996. He then married Judith (Johnson) Pancake on September 27, 1997 and she survives.Bob retired from Uniroyal in Washington after 29 years of service and was a member of the Southwind Wesleyan Church in Washington. He was a member of the VFW in Vincennes and served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II where he was with the first wave of soldiers who invaded Omaha Beach. He also drove General George Patton in the command car in Normandy, France all the way to the Rhine River.Survivors include his wife, Judith Bateman of Washington; stepdaughter, Vicky Lamar of Wheatland; step son Steven Pancake of Washington; sister, Barbara English of Loogootee; step grandchildren, Dalene Hall, Alan Pancake, Valerie Searls, Audrey Trella, Jonathan Lamar and eight step great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by brother, Forrest Bateman, Sister Bernice Davis and step daughter, Ella Mae Ditsler.Funeral services for Bob will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Southwind Wesleyan Church, 1782 Troy Road in Washington, IN with Rev. Phil Kessen officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Vincennes. Friends may visit with Bob's family from 4-8 pm on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. and from 10:00 am until service time of 11:00 am on Tuesday at the church.
