Robert Clauss

Robert "Whitey" Clauss, 81, of Vincennes, passed away Oct. 5, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Whitey was a pipefitter, and had worked at Blackford Glass, Texaco Refinery, and IP&L. An Army veteran during the Korean War, he was a member of the American Legion. An avid traveler, he has been to 56 countries and all 50 states. He enjoyed water and snow skiing, and was a ski instructor at Paoli Peaks. A lifetime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, he belonged to the St. Thomas Men's Club, and mowed and maintained the church cemetery. Whitey enjoyed gardening, golfing, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Born May 15, 1933, in Vincennes, he was the son of Lawrence and Eva (Lampe) Clauss. Surviving is his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" (Ueding) Clauss, of Vincennes; his daughters, Jane Russell and her husband, Jim, of Vincennes, and Judy Johnson and her husband, Jim, of Salem, IN; his son, David Clauss and his wife, Leslie, of Hudson, WI; grandchildren, Andrew Russell, Matthew Russell, Michael Russell, Emily Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Ellen Clauss, Brian Clauss, and Jack Clauss; and his great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Coral, and Andi Russell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10:30, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 on Wednesday, at Goodwin Funeral Home. Interment will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery. In appreciation of the care he received, and in honor of the work he did at the church cemetery, the family would prefer donations be made to the Good Samaritan Hospital Hospice, or the St. Thomas Cemetery Fund, instead of flowers being sent.
