Robert Menke

Robert E. Menke, 91, of Vincennes went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family.He was born on March 23, 1928 in Indianapolis to Edward and Florence (Martin) Menke.Bob was the owner of Menke Oil Company and after retirement spent many years working at Goodwin Funeral Home. He was Past President of the Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Bicknell School Board. Bob attended the First Church of God in Vincennes and was an avid sports fan as he loved going to Indiana University football games. More than that, Bob loved traveling with his wife, Suzan, and spending time with his family.On May 23, 1948, he married LaVirda (Johnson) Menke who preceded him in death in 2010. He was twice blessed when he married his current wife, Suzan, on May 6, 2012.Surviving are his wife, Suzan Menke of Bruceville; six children, Brenda Burke and her husband Sam of Indianapolis, Susan Rode and her husband Steve of Brownsburg, Jim Menke and his wife Randi of Vincennes, Jane Hunckler and her husband Greg of Avon, Nancy Utt and her husband Tim of Vincennes and Steve Menke and his wife Jeri of Panama City Beach, FL; a step son, Jared Doyle of Bloomington; his brothers-in-law, Denny Williams, Ferdie Williams and his wife Jean of Vincennes; along with 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, LaVirda (Johnson) Menke; his sisters, Pat Snyder, Verea Menke; and his brothers, Kenneth and Dick Menke.A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 am Monday, August 12, 2019 at the First Church of God in Vincennes with Dr. Georg Karl officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-6 pm at Goodwin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to RETT Syndrome Research or the Cerebral Palsy Foundation in honor of the people that he loved.
