Robert Murphy

August 19, 1924 — June 10, 2010

Robert Ralph known by many as "Pop" Murphy, 76 of Owensboro passed on Sunday June 5, 2016. He was the first born to the late Robert B. and Ruth E. Hayden Murphy of West Louisville on July 21, 1939. Ralph a 1958 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School, attended Brescia University and studied at Owensboro Area Vocational School selecting printing as his choice of profession. Owned and managed Quality Printing Company that employed over 100 personnel throughout his career before retiring in 1998. "Pop" a lifelong Catholic and member and supporter of Precious Blood Catholic Church, was the boys head basketball coach throughout the ‘70's. Even in poor health he continued to participate in the annual picnic preparation and was the past committee chairman. Though weak and physically challenged from early youth and not expected to reach 30, Robert defied the odd's; strengthing himself by physical activities, exercise and weight lifting; offering his equipment and garage facility to anyone in the neighborhood interested in joining him. He enjoyed collecting coins, playing golf, watching sports on TV and performing magic tricks for children. Surviving are his siblings, Larry J. Murphy(Patty), Judy F. Murphy Brown, and Terry R. Murphy; three nieces, two nephews, many great nieces, nephews and God-children. Services will be at 12:00pm. Thursday at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Visitation will be at Precious Blood Catholic Church from 10:00 to 12:00pm. Thursday.
