Roger Martin

Roger L. Martin, 82, of Monroe City, passed away at 1:26 pm June 30, 2017 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.He was born on February 13, 1935 in Monroe City, Indiana to Rudolph and Jewell (Pankake) Martin.Roger retired form Old Ben Coal Mine as a heavy machine operator working there from 1976 to 1994 and had also farmed for a number of years. A member of the Monroe City First Church of God, Roger served in the Army and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and rooting for the Evansville Aces and South Knox basketball teams.Surviving are his wife, Nancy (Pauley) Martin, whom he married on January 22, 1961; a son, Dr. Mark Martin of Evansville; and a sister, Joan Barnett of Quincy, IN.Preceding him in death were his parents.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 pm Monday July 3, 2017 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Nielson officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. Visitation will be from 3-7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
