Ronald Gene Brown, 82, of Vincennes, IN, passed away on March 20, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Hospital.He was born March 13, 1937, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Conrad "Connie" and Lillian "Pill" Brown. His parents preceded him.Surviving is his wife of sixty years, Kay (Young) Brown; his son Kevin Brown and his wife, Tami, of Sheboygan, WI; his brother, James Brown of Rockford, IL; and his nephews, Tim, Jim, and Tom Brown.A graduate of Lincoln High School and Vincennes University, Ron became an assistant vice- president at Security Bank which later became Old National Bank. He was a member of the former North United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Lay Speaker, and committee member on several committees. At the church, he was Scout Master of Troop 213, where 13 Scouts received the rank of Eagle Scout. He also helped to develop the George Rogers Clark March for Scouts.Ron was a lifelong member of the YMCA, where he served on the Board of Directors since 1970. He was Treasurer, and chaired the Membership and House and Grounds Committees for years. He coached both Y Football and Basketball, and taught both weightlifting and men's aquacise. In 2009, he received the YMCA's Ray Beless Award. The award recognizes a YMCA youth sports participant who went on to achieve success in life, whether in sports, business, or career in general within his or her community. The recipient exemplifies the YMCA Christian mission, and its foundation of character building values - respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring.He was an Indiana High School Association Licensed Official in two sports, officiating football for over 25 years, and basketball for over 15 years. Ron also officiated high school girl's basketball, and was a licensed NCAA College Basketball official for years.A former board member and treasurer of the American Red Cross for 9 years, he also served on the United Way Board. He was a Charter Board Member and Treasurer of the Miss Northwest Territory Scholarship Pageant, and was a preliminary judge for the Miss Vincennes University Scholarship Pageant several times.He was a member of the North End Boys Club, Monroe City Masonic Lodge #598 F & AM, and Optimist Club.Ron was an avid Chicago Bears fan, and later became a Colts fan as well. He loved the "kids" at the YMCA, especially the little ones, and Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Ron enjoyed crossword puzzles.Friends may visit with Ron's family from 4:00 - 7:00 on Friday, at Goodwin Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 7:00 on Friday, at the funeral home.
