Ronald C. Reed, 80, of Monroe City, went home to heaven surrounded by his loving wife and family at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville on Tuesday, December 23, 2014.Ron was born in North Judson, IN on October 26, 1934 to LeRoy F. and Anna E. (Thonert) Reed. Ron married the love of his life, Phyllis J. Dusek on March 26, 1955. He attended St. Peter's Lutheran School, North Judson High School, and the University of Illinois.Ron and his wife made their home in Royal Center, Indiana before moving to Monroe City in 1970. While in Royal Center, Ron was very active in the Little League, Lions Club, a Methodist Youth Leader, Assistant Fire Chief, and served as President of the Town Board.Ron retired from Heinold Hog Markets after 40 years as Employee/owner. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, woodworking, feeding and watching his birds. He loved his family and looked so forward to family dinners. He always had a joke as he loved to make people laugh. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Ron attended Monroe City Cumberland Presbyterian Church.Ron was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, June Salyer and Edna Schultz; and two brothers, Harold Reed and Richard Reed.Surviving are Ron's loved ones: his wife Phyllis Reed; two sons, Jeffrey B. Reed and his wife Lori of Washington, James E. Reed and his wife Tracey of Monroe City; two daughters, Jolene K. Kail and her husband Gary of Monroe City, and Joyell A. Adams and her husband Larry of Monroe City; eight grandchildren, Lisa Detweiler, Leah Mincey, Chad Adams, Audra Adams, Tyler Reed, Nora (Brooke) Reed, Ronald Colton Reed, and Madison Reed; four great grandchildren, Alexis Detweiler, Grace Detweiler, Walker Mincey, and Anzlee Adams, along with several nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Ron's life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at Goodwin Funeral home with Rev. David Parman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3-7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
