Roscoe Eaton

Roscoe Herman Eaton, 96, passed away at 10:40 p.m. on November 14, 2012 at Bridgepointe Health Campus. Roscoe was born on February 26, 1916 in Charleston, WV the son of Roscoe Alonzo and Anna (Werker) Eaton. Roscoe married Margaret Mary Dunn on July 11, 1946 and she preceded him in death on February 4, 1998. Roscoe was a shoe cobbler his whole life. He started in the shoe business at age twelve delivering shoes on his bicycle for his father. He then worked at Eaton and Spalding until the 1960's. He eventually purchased three lots on North Second Street that would become the home of "Roscoe's Cobbler Shop" for the next four decades. Roscoe was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police, VFW and American Legion. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp. Gardening was Roscoe's lifelong passion and he could grow anything.Survivors include son's Edward Eaton of Elko, Nevada; John Eaton and his wife, Terry of Vancouver, Washington; Kenneth Eaton and his wife Vicki of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Judith Eaton of Vincennes and one sister, Sr. Rose Ann Eaton of St. Mary of the Woods, IN. Roscoe was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Helen Eaton and two brothers, Raymond and Robert Eaton. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Fleck celebrating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway.
