Ruby Strate

Ruby (Hartzburg) Harrison Strate, 94, long term resident of Oaktown and Freelandville, and most recently of Vincennes, went to heaven at 6:08 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2012 with her family beside her.She was born on Friday November 17, 1917 in Sullivan County to William C. and Claudia Ann (Dawson) Hartzburg.Ruby retired in 1973 as a postal clerk at the Oaktown Post Office. After her retirement, she worked for the Tupperware Company. She was a longtime member of the Oaktown Methodist Church, Oaktown Wesleyan Church, and recently with the First Church of God in Vincennes. For many years she taught Sunday School. Coming from a long line of great cooks, Ruby continued that tradition, and she had a very giving Christian heart.Surviving is her daughter, Ann (Harrison) Dix and her husband Ron of Vincennes; a brother, Carl Hartsburg of Wheatland; her nieces, Janice Perigo and her husband Dean of Evansville, Cathy Halbert and her husband (Kerry) of Chase City, VA, Carla Hartsburg of Vincennes, Mary Ann McCann of Carlisle, and Doris Volle and her husband Roy of Carlisle; her nephews, Charles Hartzburg of Crawfordsville, and Charles Strate and his wife Judy of New Hampshire. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews, along with her caregivers, Beth Hartzburg who is her niece, Joann Howder, Carolynn Drieman, and Joni Legg.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gilbert Strate, a brother, Raymond Hartzburg, and a sister, Minnie Summers. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday at the First Church of God in Vincennes with Revs. Georg Karl, Fred Nocus, and Paul Burris officiating. Burial will follow in the Oaktown Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11:30 until the service time Tuesday at the Church.
