Ruth Dickmann

August 27, 1918 — February 20, 2019

Ruth Ella Neiman Dickmann, age 100, died February 20, 2019 in Washington, Indiana. She was born in Eads, Colorado the second of Albert C. and Annie Gerber Neiman's eight children.Ruth attended grade school in Colorado and graduated from high school in Gordon, Nebraska. She later graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing as an R.N. in 1945.That year she married J. E. (Gene) Dickmann. They resided on the Neiman family ranch near Hulett, Wyoming for nearly two years before relocating their family in Indiana. Ruth was a nurse at Bloomington Hospital and then an Industrial Nurse at the R.C.A manufacturing facility in Bloomington from 1955 until her retirement in 1979. Ruth raised three daughters, and was actively involved with her church, professional and social service activities while in Bloomington.In 1984 Ruth and her husband moved to Washington, IN where she continued her family, church and community involvement. In 2009 she received the Governor's Award for lifetime of Service recognizing 62 years of giving more than 16,483 hours of service to more than 35 organizations or programs in Indiana. She loved to sew and crochet. Her donated handiwork welcomed babies, warmed and comforted children, kept nursing center residents in mended clothes, and bedded the homeless. Her donated quilts benefited many fundraisers. During the past ten years since receiving the Lifetime Service Award she continued to serve her church and her community.Preceding Ruth in death were her parents and her brothers William, Ray, Albert, and Henry Neiman; a sister Carrie Greer; son-in-law Randy Burks; great granddaughter Taylor King, and her husband Gene. Surviving are her brother Jim Neiman and sister Mary Barbour of Hulett, WY. She is also survived by her daughters Ann Dahm (Joe) of Port Townsend, WA, Jeannie Burks of Washington, IN, Alice King (David) of las Cruces, NM, seven grandchildren; Kyra Schwartz, Leah Black, Adam Schwartz, Kelley Gray (Shawn), Kristine Booth (Brian), Kevin King (Cyndi), Bryan King (Danielle) twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.There will be a memorial service at New Hope Christian Church, 559 E 100 S, Washington, IN on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM at the church preceding the service. There will be a Nurses Honor Guard at 12:45 PM immediately before the service.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions be made to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Daviess County (R.S.V.P) and Daviess Community Hospital Helping Hearts Hospice.
