Sally Sue Wilkerson, 85, of Owensville, IN. passed away in Evansville, IN. February 1, 2022. She was born in Mt. Carmel, IL. on September 25, 1936 to the late Raymond Edward Pierson and Vera Lono (Barnett) Mobley. Sally grew up in Mt. Carmel until age 10 then moved to Owensville, IN. She attended and graduated from Owensville High School in 1954. After high school, she married the love of her life, Jerry D. Wilkerson, on October 2, 1954, and was blessed with 45 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. She was a member of Maumee General Baptist Church, where she used her beautiful singing voice in the church choir. Sally was also very involved in the Maumee Ladies missionary group, and worked as a teacher in Sunday school and VBS. She loved to go to church camp with the children from church. Sally worked at her parent's grocery store in Johnson for many years, and also as a clerk/pharmacy technician at Jackson's Pharmacy for many years. Later in life, she worked as an aide for VNA and delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. She will be remembered as a fabulous cook who (like her mother) always cooked enough to feed an army. Sally was especially known for her cinnamon rolls. Many of her entries in the Clarion Recipe Contests brought her first place in several different categories. Sally enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel, writing her feelings and poems, and reading. She will forever be known for her love of "happily ever after". Sally always loved being around people, whether she knew them or not, and was known to remember people's names and family history like a steel trap. She was chosen by the Beta Nu Chapter, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, as the "Ideal Lady for 1983", for which the Clarion quoted a chapter spokesperson as saying, "Sally is an "ideal" lady in our community in every way. Her warm personality and smiling face is admired by all." Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jerry Wilkerson; step-parents, Herb and Betty Compton, and Madison and Gladys Mobley; siblings Ricky Pierson and Pamela Pierson Treni; and step sibling Arnold Mossberger. She is survived by her children Jacqueline (William) Slatter and Scott (Susie) Wilkerson; grandchildren Aaron (Amy) Wilkerson, Taylor Lono (Tim) Payton, Jered (Ali) Wilkerson, Jordan (Tabitha) Miller, and Katelyn (Dennis Geary) East; step grandchildren John (Maggie) Slatter and Suzanne (Ross) Hansen; great-grandchildren Aiden, Noah Dean, Piper, Bryant, Harper, Lena, Eliza, Cooper, Lily, Everett, Teagan Lono, and Delilah; siblings Dwayne "Rock" Harrelson and Sandy (Jerry) Heflin; step siblings Lee Ann Compton (Kevin) Macy, Scott (Marilyn) Compton, and Steve (Margaret) Compton; many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many dear friends. Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 10a-2p followed by the funeral at 2p. A graveside service will be held at Maumee Cemetery with Ken Nelson officiating at both services.
