Sharon Like

Sharon Lee Like, of Bloomington, Indiana, formerly of Wheatland, Indiana, passed peacefully from this world on January 13, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was born August 18, 1933, in Sullivan, Indiana to James Harvey and Ernestine Smith. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.Sharon attended Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis but heading into her senior year her family moved to the small town of Wheatland, Indiana where her dad ran a small drug store. As might be imagined, a teenaged girl was less than thrilled to be moving from a city like Indianapolis to a small rural town. However, it was there that she met her future husband, Cameron Keith Like. Sharon graduated from Wheatland High School in 1951 and later from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Vincennes in 1954.During her career as a nurse she worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital as well as a local nursing home. But it was her 23 years as the school nurse at South Knox High School that was her passion. She so loved working there and enjoyed the students so much. She retired as the school nurse in May 1999 but continued working at the school as the attendance officer for a few more years. Until she was not able to attend she enjoyed the monthly "Lunch Bunch" gathering of her nursing school classmates.Sharon married Cameron Keith Like on September 12, 1954 and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2019. Sharon and Keith had a wonderful marriage and enjoyed traveling, camping, and anything to do with their children and grandchildren. They hauled their four children throughout the United States in their pick-up truck camper providing many wonderful memories and exciting experiences. After the children were grown they upgraded their camper and continued traveling around the region. On many outings the children and grandchildren were able to join Sharon and Keith on their adventures.Sharon was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and never missed a chance to tell them how much she loved them and how proud of them she was. We will all miss the sound of her voice, her hugs, and the kiss on the back of our necks.Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Margaret (Dougherty) Smith, and her brother, James Gary Smith.Sharon is survived by her husband of 65 years, Keith Like, her children Steve Like and his wife Mary Like, of Phoenix Arizona, her son Jeff Like and his wife Renita Like, of Richmond, Virginia, her daughter Lisa Pagano and her husband Brian Pagano, of Deer Park, Illinois, and her son Lance Like and his wife Karen Like, of Bloomington, Indiana. In addition, she is survived by eighteen grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.Condolence cards may be sent to Keith Like at 901 South Hastings Dr., Apt. 1239, Bloomington, IN 47401.In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Sharon's name to the South Knox Education Foundation, 6116 East St. Rd. 61, Vincennes, IN 47591 where a scholarship fund for future nurses will be established.Visitation will be Friday, January 17 from 4-7 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home in Vincennes.Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home in Vincennes.
