Sherry L. (Dunlap) Hook, 72, Vincennes, went to her Heavenly home at Good Samaritan Hospital on January 12, 2021.Sherry was born February 3, 1948, at GSH, a daughter of Jerry Barton and Nadine Lavon (Shipley) Dunlap. As a child, she lived on the farm at Decker Chapel, attending elementary school, where she also played the saxophone in the marching band before moving into Vincennes graduating from Lincoln High School. Sherry loved the farm life and longed to return. She gave her life to Christ at a very early age at Orrville Pilgrim Holiness Church, Orville, Indiana. Over the years, she became passionately in love with the Lord, spreading the Good News to everyone who would listen. As a child, rather than play with dolls, dishes or toy trucks, Sherry would set up "church" and hold her siblings captive while she preached. She was a member of Indiana Presbyterian Church, Knox County, where she participated in the prayer team group. She would tell you in a heartbeat that "prayer changes things".After high school, Sherry attended Indiana State University, Terre Haute, earning her B. A. in Elementary Education. She worked for Essex Wire in payroll, before taking employment in the YMCA Toddler Education Program, which she loved. She was the head teacher in the 2 year old room for 18 years. Little children have always owned her heart. On March 29, 1983 Sherry married Jimmy Hook and they have one daughter, Erica Heath. Sherry's life-long dream came true when she became a mother and a grandmother. Sherry had a reputation among those who knew her as being "sweet" and "kind" (to quote a niece and a nephew). She will be missed by many who loved her dearly. Those left to cherish Sherry's memory are her husband, Jim, daughter Erica, stepsons Aron and Anthony Hook, and grandchildren, Alexus, Trinity, Jaxon and Carter; sister, Brenda M. Spencer, and sisters-in-law Rita Dunlap, Newburgh and Vicky Bonenberger, Vincennes; several nieces and nephews and a special Aunt, Betty Dunlap of Missouri along with several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Barton Dunlap and Stephen Gregory Dunlap; sister Deborah Denise Blume, niece Heidi Hargis and nephew Christopher Hargis.Friends may visit with Sherry's family from 10:00 - 12:00 on Friday, at Goodwin- Sievers Funeral Home.
