Shirley J. Jones, 93, of Washington, IN passed away on November 26, 2024. She was born in Calinville, IL on July 19, 1931, to the late Russell and Virginia (Surman) Cornelius. Shirley graduated from Blackburn College. She married the love of her life, Richard Jones, on January 30, 1954. She worked at Washington Catholic Elementary School as Secretary for 22 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, PSI OTA XI Sorority, Red Hats Club and the Garden Club. In Shirley's free time, she enjoyed attending her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren events and traveling. She will be deeply missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Virginia Cornelius; husband Richard Jones; and daughter Kathy Arguilla.
Shirley is survived by children Beverly (Dave) McComish of Indianapolis, IN, Barbara Greene of Fishers, IN, Kurt (Alison) Jones of Mission Viejo, CA, and Kay (Rob) Bath of Noblesville, IN; grandchildren Matt McComish (Lindsey), Jenny Hoffman (Chad), Mark McComish, Christine Greene, Alicia Davis (Luke), Abigail Arguilla (Margaret), Reed Jones, Brett Jones, Amie Miracle (Michael), Derric Bath (Baylee), Kaitlyn Pando (Michael); 14 great-grandchildren; and special family friend Debbie Gehrke (Bob Kardosz), of Swansea, MA.
The family would like to give special thanks to all of her special friends from Taco Tuesday, and all of her "WC" friends; The Villages for years of wonderful care and friendship; and Hospice for their wonderful care.
Goodwin-Sievers is honored to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Jones. Visitation will be held January 3, 2025, at 2020 State St. Washington, IN 47501. from 10 am to 11:30 am A Celebration of Life will begin promptly at 11:30 am with burial at Sugarland Memory Gardens following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Washington Catholic Elementary School in Shirley's honor.
