Shirley Tomey

Shirley D. "Hank" Tomey, 86, of Washington, IN went to be with the Lord June 8, 2023. He was born in Elnora, IN on March 16, 1937, to the late Dwight and Helen (Rusher) Tomey. Hank graduated from Elnora High School in 1955. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Hank married the love of his life Judy Hayden on March 10, 1961. Hank worked as a machinist and in maintenance for McCord Corp. for 16 years. After McCord Corp. closed he continued his career with Indianapolis Power and Light for 25 years until retirement. Hank was known for many things such as his love for antique engines and tractors. He was a proud member of the TriState Antique Engine Club, Oblong Antique Tractor and Engine Association, Oil Field Engine Society (OFES). Hank was also a man of faith and was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. In his free time he enjoyed traveling with his wife Judy, building and machining antique model engines, camping, restoring antique tractors and engines, working with his son and grandsons in the family machine shop, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed. Hank was preceded in death by his parents; brothers LaVonne "Bucky" Tomey, Dencil (Mary Etta) Tomey; and twin sister Shelba (Bill) Mottern. He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Judy Tomey; children Tammy (Mark) Byrer, Peggy (John) Ticen, Doug (Shannon) Tomey; grandchildren Megan (Matt) Wright, Allie (Chris) Cole, Garrett (Jessica) Byrer, Stephanie Ticen, Nate Napier, Hayden Tomey, Raeanna (Dustin) Freson; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Goodwin-Sievers is honored and entrusted with the care of Mr. Tomey. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 2020, State St. from 3-8pm and June 16, 2023, from 10-11am. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 16, 2023, at 11am. Memorial donations can be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Hank's honor.
