Sonny

Raymond “Sonny” Phillips, 85, of Vincennes, IN passed away February 6, 2024. He was born on September 26, 1938, to the late Mary (Mengedoht) Moore. He was raised in Bruceville, IN by his loving grandparents Ethel and Raymond Mengedoht. Sonny married, the love of his life, Patsy Bowers on November 9, 1956. He worked for many years as a union concrete finisher.

Sonny was a simple man who enjoyed simple living. He loved working on and painting cars. In his lifetime, he owned 60 Corvettes. Sonny also took great pride in his lawn and maintaining it. He enjoyed watching Nascar and IU basketball and football. Sonny never met a stranger and enjoyed it when people would stop by and spend time talking with him. He will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Patsy Phillips; grandparents Ethel and Raymond Mengedoht; mother Mary Moore; father Marion Phillips; and cousin Ancy Kaiser, who he was very close with.

Sonny is survived by his son Brian (Lori) Phillips of Bruceville, IN; daughter Shelly (Eric) Polston of Vincennes, IN; granddaughter Lauren (Chad) Hawkins and great-grandchildren Lane and Aubree Hawkins, all of Vincennes; brothers James (Gloria) Phillips of Charlotte, NC, Alden (Barbara) Phillips of Bruceville, Merle (Kim) Moore and Lonnie (Cindy) Moore, both of Vincennes, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

Goodwin-Sievers is honored to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Phillips. A graveside service will take place April 19, 2024, at Memorial Park Cemetery at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Good Samaritan Hospice in Sonny’s honor.
