It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arnold "Sonny" A. Ellermann Jr, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and self-employed farmer. Sonny, born on December 26, 1938, in Vincennes, IN, found joy and fulfillment in tending to the land throughout his life, making farming his true passion.
Married to his beloved wife Rita for 62 years, Sonny shared a deep and enduring love built on a foundation of commitment and mutual respect. Together, they created a home filled with love and warmth, raising their children with care, devotion, and "whatever!"
Sonny's legacy lives on through his children, Lori Holscher, Rod Ellermann, and Douglas Ellermann, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts. He was also a cherished son to his parents, Arnold and Lucille Ellermann, who nurtured him with love and support throughout his life.
Sonny''s dedication to his work as a self-employed farmer was unwavering, and his contributions to the community will be remembered for generations to come. His kindness, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to his family and land leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sonny is survived by his children, Rod Ellermann (Sherry) of Bridgeport, IL., Douglas Ellermann of Indianapolis, IN., and Lori Holscher (Patrick) of Decker, IN.; brothers, Walter Morris Ellermann (Nwyla) of Vincennes, IN. and Dennis Wayne Ellermann (Barbara) of Vincennes, IN.; sister, Mary Catherine "Kathy" Lane of Vincennes; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren, and a baby girl on the way. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lucille Ellermann; wife, Rita Ellermann; infant brother, Carl William Ellermann; and granddaughter, Elaina Ellermann Stoll.
Visitation for Sonny will be held Friday, May 17, 2024 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home from 10:00 am -12:00 pm. The funeral service will start promptly at noon following visitation. Pastor Trevor Murry will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribtions can be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or Vincennes Pet Port. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Sonny.
