Terrell Houchins

April 15, 1949 — October 14, 2023

Terrell D. Houchins, 74, went home to be with the Lord on October 14, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 15, 1949, to Forrest and Wanda Lee (English) Houchins in Oakland City, IN. Terrell graduated from Winslow High School in 1967. He served his country in the United States Army from 1969-1972. Terrell married the love of his life, Shelley Lynch, on May 5, 1973, at Little's Baptist Church.


Terrell retired from Crane Naval Support Center as an Electronic Technician. Crane offered him the opportunity to live and work in Okinawa, Japan on 2 different occasions with his wife and family. After retirement, he owned and operated Starter Alternator Rebuild Services in his hometown of Washington, IN. After selling his business, he was a bus driver for Red Door Preschool and was fondly known as "Papaw" by his young passengers.


He found great strength and joy in his personal relationship with the Lord. He served in several capacities within his church. At the time of death, he attended Vincennes First Church.


Terrell enjoyed an adventurous life with his best friend Shelley. He loved traveling both domestically and internationally, spending time with his family, and watching his grandsons in their multiple sporting events. Terrell also enjoyed listening to 70’s and 80’s classic rock, watching IU basketball, and restoring and driving his 1958 Chevy Truck.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Wanda Lee (English) Houchins, and brother Mitch Houchins.


Terrell is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Shelley Houchins; daughters Andrea (Barry) Clegg and Robin (Matthew) Tricker; grandsons Isaiah Tricker, Keenan Clegg, Ian Tricker, Joshua Clegg, Elijah Tricker; sister Thessa (Stan) Wichael; and many nieces and nephews.


Goodwin-Sievers is honored to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Houchins. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 524 Broadway St., Vincennes from 10am to service time. The funeral service will be held at 1pm with burial at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, IN immediately following.
