Terry Mooney

Former Vincennes Mayor, Terry D. Mooney, 77, of Vincennes, IN, passed away February 26, 2020, at his home.Born November 17, 1942, Terry was the son of Richard and Alta (Pittman) Mooney.Terry served as mayor of Vincennes from 2000-2008. He began his civic career as a Vincennes City Policeman, in 1971, and retired December 31, 1999, as Major over the Patrol Division - the highest Merit Policeman. Following his time as mayor, he held a position under Governor Mitch Daniels in the Indiana Department of Local Government and Finance, meeting with mayors across the state. Terry also worked for the Indiana Department of Transportation and the Knox County Work Release Program. He enjoyed the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students while working as a custodian for the Vincennes Community School Corporation. Governor Eric Holcomb honored Terry with being named a Sagamore of the Wabash.A member of the Heritage Baptist Church, he was also a member of Jaycees, Kiwanis, the Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, YMCA, Fraternal Order of Police, and the CCOV. Terry was a former member of the Vincennes Masonic Lodge #1, F&AM. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed fishing. During the Vietnam era, he served in the Indiana National Guard.Surviving is his wife, Kathleen (Guthrie) Mooney, whom he wed May 21, 1986; his daughter, Kimberly Minor and her husband, Kevin, of St. Louis, MO; his son, David Mooney and his wife, Caitlin, of O'Fallon, MO; his step-daughter, Stefanie Hendrix and her husband, Tom, of Fishers, IN; his twin brother, Jerry Mooney and his wife, Linnette, of Vincennes, IN; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 - 7:00 on Sunday, at Goodwin- Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway Vincennes, IN. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Monday, at 10:30. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.Donations may be made to Old Town Players or Good Samaritan Hospice.
