Theresa Fitzgerald

Theresa A. FitzGerald, 88, who was born in St. Paul, Kansas, and lived in Kansas City, Missouri and Dodge City, Kansas before moving to Vincennes in 1972, passed away November 11, 2019, at her home, surrounded by family.Theresa received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mt. Saint Scholastica College in Atchison, KS, and at age 40, received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Vincennes University. She had retired from Good Samaritan Hospital, where she had been the nursing supervisor in the dialysis department.A member of the Old Cathedral, she attended Mass daily. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and was a volunteer at the Jesus King Angels Adoration Chapel.Theresa was a world traveler, having been to Japan several times, Canada, Jamaica, Israel, Germany, the Bahamas, and Italy. She also took trips with her children and their families. At home, she enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook. She made quilts for each of her grandchildren, and also sewed christening gowns. Attending any of her grandchildren's events was a favorite activity. It was common to see Theresa walking with her black dog to and from church, the library, the grocery store, and at the soccer field.Surviving are her children, Kevin FitzGerald and wife, Susan, of Springfield, MO, Dan FitzGerald of Elnora, IN, Ed FitzGerald and wife, Lisa, of Indianapolis, IN, Mary Miller and husband, William, of Vincennes, IN, Thomas FitzGerald of Indianapolis, IN, Chris FitzGerald and wife, Yukie, of Sasebo, Japan, Katie Larrison and husband, Rob, of Battle Creek, MI, and Maggie Niehaus and husband, David, of Bruceville, IN; her sisters, Alice Nicholson of Dallas, TX, Sister Mary Grosdidier of Atchison,KS, and Jean Scott and husband, Art, of Kittery, ME; her brothers, Albert Grosdidier and wife, Maria, of Pomona, KS, Francis Grosdidier of St. Paul,KS, and Lawrence Grosdidier and wife, Janet, of Kansas City, KS; her grandchildren, Kathryn Lowry and husband, Ryan, Shannon Dirksen and husband, Mitch, Erin Lobb and husband, Dan, Kelly FitzGerald and fiance', Gabe Salois, Ryan FitzGerald, Alyssa FitzGerald and husband, Charlie Linard, Molly FitzGerald, Cara FitzGerald, Christopher FitzGerald, Isabel Miller, Jacob FitzGerald, Kathleen FitzGerald, Aileen FitzGerald, Nolan FitzGerald, Aimee FitzGerald, Anna Larrison, Emily Niehaus and fiance', Cody Jones, Ben Niehaus, Katie Niehaus, and Abby Niehaus; her great-grandchildren, Grace Lowry, Michael Lowry, Matthew Lowry, Parker Dirksen, Hunter Dirksen, Charlotte Dirksen, and Franklin Linard; and her lifelong friends, Trudi Wilson and Blanche Ostendorf.Born July 27, 1931, she was the daughter of Louis M. and Alice E. (Vitt) Grosdidier. Her parents and two brothers, Ralph and Ed Grosdidier preceded her.Friends may visit with Theresa's family from 4:00 - 7:00 on Friday, at Goodwin Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 on Friday, at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, at 10:00, at the Old Cathedral. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or the Knox County Public Library.
