Thomas Lowe

August 14, 1933 — December 31, 2011

Thomas D. Lowe, 78, of Vincennes, passed away Dec. 31, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Tom retired as a chief petty officer from the United States Navy after serving for 21 years. He then went to work at Wabash Parts, retiring after 26 years. A member of St. John's United Church of Christ, he was treasurer and a member of the Paul class. Tom had served on the church board for two terms, and helped to start Boy Scout Troop #273. He was active in the Relay for Life, and with his wife, Patty, managed the Relay for Life office on Main Street. Following that, they both became volunteers at the Good Samaritan Hospital Cancer Pavillion. Tom was also active in American Legion Post #73. He was currently serving as chaplain, and also 7th District chaplain, and was a past post commander. He was a member of the Lawrenceville VFW, and a former member of the Lincoln High School Band Boosters. He enjoyed watching Lincoln basketball. Born Aug. 14, 1933 in Knox Co. IN, he was the son of Thomas R. & Blanche (Lankford) Lowe. His parents preceded him. Surviving is his wife, Patty (Vollmer) Lowe, whom he married Aug. 31, 1958; children Sarah Lowe, Tim Lowe, and Ted (Christie) Lowe, all of Vincennes; a brother, John (Karen) Lowe of Inverness, FL; grandson Jason Lavely; and a great-grandson, Dillon Lavely. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 10:00, at Goodwin Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Kate Lambertson officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 3:00
