Thomas Norton

Thomas Dee Norton, 85, of Washington, Indiana passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023. He was born on May 5, 1937 in Pike County and was the son of Wilbur and Rose (Powell) Norton. Thomas was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School and after graduation, he enlisted in the Army reserve as a combat engineer. He then worked for Standard Oil Gas Station where he met the love of his life, Mary Margaret Wade, and the two married on August 28, 1962. They were blessed with four children. On May 1, 1968 he became a member of the Washington Fire Department. He retired after 25 years of service on May 1, 1993. He also worked part time for Washington Catholic High Schools and went full time after he retired from the fire department. He had also worked for the Washington parks department. Thomas was a jack of all trades. He loved spending time in prayer, with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His beloved dog, Penny held a special place in his heart as well. He will be missed by his family and friends and his American Table Restaurant Community. Thomas is survived by his children, MaryRose Carlow (David), Tommy Norton, Bobby Norton (Gail Ann), and Jimmy Norton (Tabitha); grandchildren, Wade (Josie), Danny (Ashton), Vince (Brit), Reed (Mikaela), McKenzie, Megan, Blake, and MonteLee; great grandchildren, Brody, Fox, Grace, Cailin, Neo, Nora, and one on the way; sister, Miriam Norton Carroll; In laws, Delores Padgett, Pauline Sellers, Rose and Barry Clark, Bud Mallett, and Bill and Shirley Wade. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rose (Powell) and Wilbur Norton; his wife, Mary Wade Norton; two infant brothers, his brother and sister in law, Jack and Barbara Norton; sister Martha Norton Mallott; brother in laws, John Carroll, Lester Padgett, Charles Buck Sellers, and Jerry Mangin; sister in law, Agnes Mangin. Visitation for Thomas will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 4 -8 pm at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. The funeral service will be at the church on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 10:30 am with Father Paul Ferguson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care of Thomas.
