Thomas Gilmore Young, 58, of Washington, Indiana, passed away Jan. 24, 2019. Gil was born to Sylvia Aline (Kellams) Young and Thomas Robert Young on July 25, 1960, in Washington, Indiana.Gil graduated from Washington High School in 1978 and then ITT Technical Institute in Evansville in 1980. He began his career working for Halliburton (formerly known as Geophysical Services Inc.) as a geophysical researcher. His career and adventurous spirit took him to numerous countries including Peru, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, China, England, Australia, Pakistan, Laos, Netherlands, Portugal, Nepal, Thailand, and many others. Gil's open mindedness and indifferent attitude allowed him to strike up random conversations with all sorts of creatures. He claims to have played in a "competitive" basketball league in China and came face to face with gibbons in the jungles of Peru. It was in Thailand that he met his wife, Siripon Young. They were married for over 33 years and have two sons, Bart and Bravo. He came back to the states in 1993, bringing his eclectic family back to his hometown. For the past 10 years, Gil has lived out his dream - training and teaching in his own personal gym. He kept himself in great shape - always pushing himself beyond his limits. He took great pride in working with people of all ages, stature and abilities. His niche was stability training while increasing coordination and core body strength. His goal was to improve one's body, mind and spirit.Gil loved rock 'n roll and all sports. He was loyal to his teams - the Steelers, Cardinals and Pacers - and knew a lot of useless stats. He also knew just about every song lyric from the 70s and loved to quiz his friends on Facebook. But you wouldn't want to hear him sing or watch him dance! He is survived by his wife Pon Young; sons Bart and wife June of Chicago and Bravo of Denver; sister Sylvia (Pat) DeVault of Evansville; nieces and nephews Sam and Spencer DeVault of Evansville, Ruttamanoon, Lookput and Ponsak Pantub of Bangkok, Thailand. And he leaves behind numerous cousins from all over the United States. This Saturday, January 26, 2019 a celebration of life will be held at Aces starting at 6PM until 10 pm to remember the life of Gilbert "Gil" Young.
