Tim Nolting

August 7, 1954 — August 3, 2022

Timothy Russell "Tim" Nolting went to be with his Savior on August 3, 2022. He was born August 7, 1954, to the late Wallace and Gayle (Koenig) Nolting. A 1972 graduate of South Knox High School, Tim studied at the Nashville Welding School in 1974. He spent much of his time working at a radiator shop, coal mine, and Sheehan Pipeline, along with various other jobs, until he later studied to become a gunsmith at Piedmont Community College of North Carolina in 2007. Tim married his devoted wife Debbie (Vandergraff) Nolting on June 26, 1982. They loved each other for 40 full years enjoying the outdoors, caring for various kinds of animals, and serving the Lord. A tinkerer, storyteller, scholar and poet, Tim was a local legend pulled from the pages of Dickens: a man you probably never really knew but certainly can never forget. Ever dedicated to shock value, co-workers still talk of his complex (yet harmless) pranks and what mysteries could be found in his lunchbox. Church pitch-ins and Christmas dinner menus will never be forgotten. A true craftsman and lover of obscure projects and gunsmithing, Tim was able to make or do almost anything that piqued his interest. Tim was the man who could crack the safe, dynamite the stump, or share some homemade moonshine or sorghum. Unmotivated by money, Tim provided his time and services to others generously and without charge. A lover of God, history, and learning, Tim had a quiet disposition that complemented his love for spectacle and reaction. An endearingly incorrigible and witty man without guile. Tim is survived by his wife, Debbie; sister, Stephanie (Larry) Winkler; brother, Harry (Arden) Nolting; brothers-in-law, Carl (Margie) Vandergraff, Jess (Donna) Vandergraff, Mike (Kathy) Needham, and Mark Needham; sister (to both Tim and Debbie), Mary (Randy) Lee; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, August 7, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church, 1423 N 4th Street, Vincennes, Indiana, with service following. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers a donation to any worthy charity. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Tim.
