Velma Irvin

Velma Lee Irvin, 85, passed away at 11:47 a.m. on February, 27, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Velma was born on February 11, 1927 in Allendale, IL the daughter of Albert and Henrietta (Ridgeway) Carey. She married Harley Irvin, Sr. on January 15, 1949 and he preceded her in death on April 28, 2001.Velma was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and had worked at Hooks Drug Store for many years. Survivors include her children, daughter, Barbara Elkins and her husband, Gary of Vincennes; daughter, Brenda Conley of Lawrenceville, IL; son, Harley (Brent) Irvin and his wife Terri, of Effingham, IL; daughter, Lisa Talley, of Vincennes; grandchildren, Chad Grishaw, Travis Grishaw, Brandy Harting, Eric Irvin, Tracy Talley; greatgrandchildren, Stephanie Elkins, Garett Elkins, Shaley Grishaw, Ashton Grishaw, Aiden Harting, Liam Harting and Landon Mallot. Also surviving are brother, Junior Carey and his wife Florence of Mt. Carmel, IL; sister, Louise Snodgrass of Frankfort, IN; sister, Joan Wright of Henderson, KY; brother, Ray Carey and his wife Flo of Michigan and Janet Ensor and her husband Bob of Mt. Carmel, IL. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Harley, son Larry Irvin, two grandchildren, granddaughter, Amy Elkins grandson, Shannon Elkins, brother, Leo Carey and sister Lois Fuson.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, with the Rev. John DeSanto officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
