Victor L. Meyer, 97, of Vincennes died August 1 at his home with family by his side. He was born at home near Purcell Station on July 30, 1924, to Edward F. and Emma (Pepmeier) Meyer. Victor graduated from Decker High School in 1942 and started farming immediately after graduation. When asked recently what age he retired from farming, he responded "96". Victor began farming with horses and mules. He raised melons, grain and livestock. Three things defined his life: he loved the Lord, he loved his family, and he was an excellent farmer and herdsman. Church and choir were very important to Victor. He was confirmed at Zion Evangelical Reformed Church and continued his worship at St. John's United Church of Christ when those two congregations merged. At St. John's he met Mary Louise Bell in the choir, and they were married for 61 years until her death on August 1, 2008. Together, they had five children: Marsha (Joe) Geiman of Speedway, Indiana, Marvin (Jan) Meyer of Monroe City, Indiana, Mark (Marcey) Meyer of Brook, Indiana, Steven (Krista) Meyer of Indianapolis, Indiana, and V. Alan (Kim) Meyer of Vincennes, Indiana. Victor had eight grandchildren: Mindy (Bart) Strayer of Edmonds, Washington, Tressa (Andy) MacLennan of Scottsdale, Arizona, Chris (Britney Watts) Geiman of Speedway, Indiana, Tim Geiman of Brownsburg, Indiana, Cal (Abbie) Meyer of Littleton, Colorado, Kelsey (TC) Knipp of Carmel, Indiana, Jessica (Chad) Beaman of Vincennes, Indiana, and Tristan (Zach) Miller of Vincennes, Indiana. Victor also had eight great grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Paul E. Meyer and Kathryn A. Cole of Vincennes, Indiana. Preceding him in death was a brother, Ervin C. Meyer. The family would like to thank all his caregivers over the last four months and Good Samaritan Hospice for excellent care. Memorial gifts may be given to St. John's United Church of Christ in Vincennes. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, August 7, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at St. John's United Church of Christ with the service to follow.
