Violet Simpson

Violet Jean Simpson, 88, of Owensville, IN passed away February 19, 2022. She was born March 3, 1933 in Owensville, IN to the late Vesper J. Mowrer and Mary Estella (Boman) Mowrer. Violet graduated from Owensville High School in 1951. She worked as a secretary at W. B. Johnson Insurance Company in Owensville, IN from 1951-1956. Violet worked at Owensville School as a clerk from 1966-1974 and Gibson Southern High School from 1974-1998 as a secretary. She was a member of General Baptist Church from 1944-1956, Owensville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) from 1956 until they closed in 2012, and a current member of Owensville United Methodist Church. Violet enjoyed trips to the flea market and making costume jewelry in early years. She collected Boyd's bears throughout her life. Violet was a proud farmer's wife and enjoyed keeping up with agriculture. The most treasured position in her life was becoming a grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 58 years, Robert "Bob" L. Simpson; siblings Paul (Verdene) Mowrer, Philip Mowrer, Kenneth (Jackie) Mowrer, and Virginia (Eugene) Thompson; several nephews and cousins. Violet is survived by her children Barry (Christy Mulhall) Simpson of Cleveland, OH and Denny (Diana) Simpson of Owensville, IN; granddaughter Emily (Kyle) Rexing; sister-in-law Jane Mowrer; nieces; and many cousins. Holder's Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Simpson. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 4p-7p at Holder's Funeral Home. Funeral will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 10am with Pastor Bart Newton officiating with burial at Clark Cemetery.
